I think Scran is/was used in the Navy for food. In Oz we used "Crib" to mean the same thing at work. Hence we also had a Crib Room where we
we would take our Crib Break.
Here in New Zealand in the South Island, a Crib could be lunch or it could also be a holiday home. A holiday home in the North Island is known as a Bach. (pronounced Batch)
 
They certainly did probably been renamed something else but its a significant time since I left school it may well have changed and so hopefully one of the whippersnappers on the site may answer .
