When/why did Clegg become phobic towards women?

In the early episodes, he always has something witty to say to the ladies, even up to Getting Sam Home where he didn't seem too shy around Lily Bless Her or have much fear of Sybil. Why did the character have to change? I think I much prefer the earlier Clegg than the later one in this regard.

    Gurkhans and trumps

I was watching Britbox tonight, and after an episode of Father Ted and Dr Who., I switched to LOSW. I was watching the episode where they are in the cloak room playing Cards. What exactly is the game that Compo mentions? Is it like WAR where the high suite automatically wins?

    Cleggy, the Belgium Detective.

I was going through my BBC Radio 4 downloads and came upon one I hadn't gotten around to listening to yet; Hercule Poirot's Christmas. Low and behold, the sleuth is being voiced by Peter Sallis! The production is from 1986 I believe. I really enjoy most of the Radio 4 full cast dramatizations...

    Favorite Scene

I'm sure most people have multiple moments that they really enjoy but if you could narrow it down to one, what would it be? My personal favorite is the last few minutes of "Paté and Chips." They are on the steps to Compo's flat and sharing a can of Carlsberg. Blamire is a bit tipsy and shows a...

Getting Sam Home and Open All Hours's Pilot

LOSW and Open All Hours's similarities Just finished watching the pilot for Open All Hours and I was feeling a bit of deja vu. Maybe it's the self reflection from Ronnie Barker reminding me of Sam (Getting Sam Home) talking about Cosgrove's (?) Mrs's or what not. Just the dialog in general...

    Wit vs slapstick

I think the thing that has brought me around to liking the first few series of the show as compared to the later work is the black humor, backhanded compliments and overall dialogue of the Blamire /early Foggy years. A lot of witty back and forth that really had you paying attention to what was...

Finding other fame during or after Summer Wine

With many well known actors appearing in their twilight years on LOSW, I'm going in the other direction in looking for cast or guests who became better known during or after their appearances on Summer Wine. Internationally, I would say Peter Sallis of course, with the Wallace and Gromit...

    Was Compo an ale drinker?

I noticed in many episodes over the years that Compo's drink always seemed lighter in color than the others. Was this because it was disguised apple cider or something? As he was the only one who ever seemed to really drink rather than sip his brew I'm curious.

    Howdy!

I've been poking around the forum a bit and really enjoy what I've read so I figured I'd come in and introduce myself before making any more posts. I'm Don and I'm from Beautiful So Cal (Silver Lake, Los Angeles to be more specific). I first came across LOSW while flipping through channels to...
