Another unintelligible phrase

This time it's in Whose That Dancing With Nora Batty Then. Just before 26 minutes, 20 seconds, Clegg is standing at the end of the piano and turns to speak to Ivy and Sid, behind the counter. He says, "[unintelligible]. Anyway, times were hard".

The transcriber of the .srt file I'm using as a reference simply ignored the phrase. I think I can hear at least four syllables, but can't pick out any words and haven't yet thought of anything that fits the rhythm of the delivery or the context.

Has anyone ever made any sense of that moment?

Thanks to both of you. As usual, having read a suggestion I can now hear words in that spot, and it certainly sounds like you're right.

I thought it sounded like "just a rumor" but the only word that is really clear is rumor.
