WOE, WOE AND THRICE WOE. I have just spent more than one hour writing a missive for you delectation and whilst going through it to check punctuation and spelling I inadvertently pressed the wrong button and there it was, gone. I can remember what it was about but do not have the heart to rewrite it. I hate doing things twice, well, most things. So it looks like you will have to stare at a blank page today.......WHO CHEERED?..... ................................. Not much fun this is it? ....................................... Not much to talk about, a row of full stops................. AHH, something has just sprung to mind. Did you know that on this date in 1933 Nessie was first reported seen swimming around in Loch Ness. That is 88 years ago. Just in case there are members who have never heard of Nessie, she is a big dragon like creature that lives in Loch Ness in Scotland. No one has conclusively proved or disproved whether she is fict or faction.??? err, fact or fiction. See, my nerves start to jangle just thinking about her. That is not surprising because I married her sister, Nessie Batty. For the record, the 2nd of May 1933 was the first day she was reported. Have any of you been to Loch Ness? I remember on our last visit there peering down into the loch from an observation platform, when my wife screamed and jumped back. 'IT'S THERE. IT'S THERE,' she yelled.
'Don't be silly,' I said,'it's just your reflection'. :12:

Nessie? Yes I remember her! She was the big girl with blotchy legs that always came last in the annual sports day egg and spoon race. Used to come first in the race for the dinner queue though, I seem to remember. Perhaps they should have had an annual race for that.

WOE, WOE AND THRICE WOE. I have just spent more than one hour writing a missive ...
I had a similar experience yesterday. I had spent at least an hour in Word writing a letter to enclose in my cousin's birthday card and was nearly to the end of the second page, when, in mid-sentence, the CPU powered off. I was too stunned even to swear. After switching the power toggle on the back of the CPU off and back on, I was able to restart the computer, then launch Word and rescue the letter from the most recent automatic save, so I didn't have to rethink the entire narrative. I'm just back from taking the card and letter to the Post Office so it will be on its way tomorrow. It might make it across the country to Northern California by the 6th, but because of all the disruptions to USPS in the last year, it's more likely to be a week or two late.

Do ctrl-s on a regular basis to save. I worked in IT and learned the hard way that crashes and network outages could be a nightmare to work in progress even if it can recovered.

I worked in IT for a while, too. Usually, I ctrl-s at the end of each paragraph, but yesterday I was writing while half-asleep. Still no idea why the CPU, but nothing else, suddenly powered off. Still too groggy to explore for an answer.
