Hello from KENTUCKY - USA

I'm not sure if my replies are going to the right person. I'm very informal. I'm probably going to be groping around here, much like Eli.

I do like that they say "Cheery Bye" to the lady as they leave the store. Is that still a common expression in the UK?

I think it one of the cleaner Scots phrases for goodbye [only ever heard it North of the Border] most of which , when the English and especially Southern English people are concerned , could never be printed on the forum for fear of censure from the Administrators and offending the members .

Some wonderful Scots words such as Haver which is in effect talking gibberish or rubbish as seen in the anthem 500 miles by the Proclaimers

I'm gonna be the man who gets drunk next to you
And if I haver up, yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's havering to you

So in essence a guy is saying if he's drunk which causes him to speak drivel he hopes he will speak drivel to his girl !
