I was working in Stockport yesterday and thought i'd show you this great sculpture of a real hero milkman. C0-Op milkman and Royal Marine James Conway was one of ten men who paddled collapsible canoes up the Gironde estuary in Nazi occupied France Dec 7th 1942. Their target was the German merchant ships heading to Bordeaux onto which they would attach limpet mines. Six ships were sunk . Six marines including James were shot after being captured and a further two drowned. The Cockleshell Heroes.
