The Post box.

The Lady in the US who had Foggy's clothes is a friend of mine, when Foggy died his wife asked the BBC could she have Foggy clothes, which they passed onto her, when she died they were put up for auction on eBay via a charity where the money ended up,as a thank you she let me keep Foggy's cap which I still have today
Terry that's wonderful,I'd love to see a photo of that cap, what a marvellous thing to own, they have one of Foggys jackets in the exhibition in Holmfirth and I always pause to look at it,I'll put a photo up if I manage to get over next week,I wish the props thing would have worked out, that would have been brilliant,if I'd known I would have driven them over myself. :-)

I decided to bite the bullet and send the BBC an enquiry through the BBC website which the sent and auto response that it was received and they would come back to me at some point . I will share any feedback . Clearly some items were auctioned I recall one of the members in the US posting they had Foggy's cap/jacket but regardless if the BEEB has disposed of the LOTSW props it would still be nice to look in their Prop Store .
Thank you so much for that captain, would be really interested to hear their reply.

I apologise in advance for maybe repeating myself but I assume a lot of the props may have been destroyed or sold off but some may survive and are in a BBC Store somewhere, alongside items from some historic shows. Surely it's worth an hour's documentary to have a camera and presenter peer into these storage depots to see what has happened to these items , given the popularity of the shows at the time and indeed now I am sure the interest is there .

The analogy I can draw was a documentary a few years back made about the Las Vegas neon sign Museum in the US because it not only was fascinating to see iconic signs that were seen in films and TV shows the presenter gave a little bit of an insight into the history of Vegas itself.
That's a great idea, would love to see a programme that featured that,I love anything like that, there was once a programme that used to bring back surviving cast members from old shows and they would reminisce about the programme and the making of it,I remember the Hi de Hi one, would love to see one with Brian Murphy and Keith Clifford and Mike Grady,Sarah Thomas.I could look at the old props all day,its why I go in the exhibition at Holmfirth as often as I do,seeing each one up close brings back lots of memories, they're not behind glass either, you can touch Foggys jacket for example.

Pete they used that area many times, the fake zebra crossing in Crums where they stopped Wesley is just one that springs to mind
I know Terry,I recognise the area all the time when I watch episodes, but until you told me I didn't recognise 4,Binn Road just up from the post box,and then when I watched The Miraculous Curing again I wondered how I ever missed it.Thankyou for all the help you have given me with the locations, and for all the wonderful information you share with us.

These Pics were taken in Dec 2009 just before the bulk of the items were shipped to the USA, which also included Trousers and a tie, the casual jacket was not seen very often I think the episode "The Dewhirst of Oglby Hall" was one of them

All,

I have received a response to my questions about old props from the BBC which was nice of them to do . I apologise for the length of the post but the response does contain references to pages which may be of interest to some of the members :-

" Thanks so much for getting in touch. It’s a lovely idea for a programme and, while I can’t guarantee anything, I’ve certainly noted your interest.

There’s not really many BBC props left anymore and nowadays most of them are hired from specialist suppliers. There are a small number of costumes left in the collection, drawn from very special BBC programmes, you can read more about the Archive collection on the website below:

Sadly, with the sale of Television Centre to developers in 2012, the final wave of BBC memorabilia was sold off at auction in 2014 raising thousands of pounds. You can read more about the auction below:

If you want to find out how to submit a programme idea to the BBC the commissioning website below is a good place to start. Open the link ‘ideas from the public’ and you can find out more about the process and how to take an idea forward.

BBC Four regularly puts out classic BBC programmes and many of them are available to watch again on the BBC Four collections below:

There’s also a major new classic comedy season being rolled out across BBC Two and Four this summer that you might find interesting. There’s more on the link below:

captain thank you so much, and for sharing the information with us,what a shame the bulk of the props were sold off.I'v been to the exhibition today and took loads of photos of the props they have there, like the mangle in Three men and a Mangle, and when they appear in an episode I'll post the photo of them in the museum showing them today,Terry, what special things to own, thankyou for sharing the photos, today at the exhibition I touched and held Foggys cap and jacket and it made the hairs on my neck stand up,I'll post a photo of them here,to own them, like the captain says knowing the history, would be just amazing.

Still contemplating trying to contact the BBC Heritage Collection, seem to be entrusted with the props and costumes from the shows . I was disappointed because the link that takes you to their pages in the BBC website has several sub pages but the key one I wanted to see was a link to "Where can I see items from the Collection " which you get a 404 page not found . One of the sub links mentions that they have retained some props and costumes including Ronnie Barker's Brown Coat from Open all Hours so I would also like to know if they have anything at all from LOTSW.
