Brilliant post Tony , I remember the show well and as you say what a bunch of stars some of whom are still very much active . The contrast between Keith Fordyce suited and booted and the rest of the audience is stark . My first crush appears on there Cathy McGowan absolutely fabulous , Michael Ball is a lucky lucky guy !!

After more than 40 years in the music business, legendary folk singer Mary Black played her last gig at the weekend. I love the lines from this song No Frontiers;
"If life is a river and your heart is a boat
And just like a water baby, baby born to float
And if life is a wild wind that blows way on high
Then your heart is Amelia dying to fly"

You're all probablygetting really hacked off with me keep posting Fairport bits but this caught my eye.
Back in 1969 I was round at a friends home, I must have been in my late teens and he played Fairport Conventions Liege and lief, and that was seriously the biggest ever impact on me musically. It shook the earth, but especially the medley "The lark in the morning" with Richard Thompson and Dave Swarbrick facing off.
This is a hybrid Fairport but Richard Thompson is there but facing off with Chris Leslie. ONLY WATCHABLE on YooToob

Can never be enough of the Fairports been a fan since the 60s bought Liege and Lief on release and at least three copies of Full House after wearing copies out in the Sixth Form Centre we had at school , it was a firm favourite with us and was played endlessly . Swarb's jigs and breaks were the big draw for me have to say Ric Sanders and Chris Leslie are excellent players and keep his legacy intact.

Not sure about Ric Sanders, yes, he's an excellent player, but I don't like some of "his" personal input/style!
Chris Leslie is also excellent, but what I really like about Chris is that he is a multi-multi instrumentalist, and almost perfect on everything he touches, AND he personally made the violin he plays on stage - dedication.

"Bright Blue Rose, written by renowned Irish songwriter Jimmy MacCarthy, is a poetic and deeply spiritual song about diving into the mysteries of faith, love, and divine presence. Rather than having a literal narrative, it uses mystical imagery to explore timeless, sacred truths."

Whenever I think of Leonard Cohen I think of the boats I can hear going by down near the river with Suzanne, and her sisters, showing plenty of mercy, always hovering nearby, having not departed.

Suzanne is the only one of his songs that I'm tired of. It's just because of over-exposure. For a long time, it was on the radio almost daily.

You should have been in Britain at that time, there were times it seems to have been played HOURLY!!

I do find that playing any of his early ballads creates an air of calm around me.

They have the same effect for me, even though he was anything but calm when he wrote and recorded them. Sisters of Mercy is another of my favorites.
