IMHO - Babs was the worst semi-regular, Mrs Avery the worst regular character. Never liked either of them.

What are yours?

I'm in full agreement. Babs and Mrs. Avery. Although I don't think Mrs. Avery was all that bad in her second series, she still didn't really fit in.

I must admit there was one or two episodes that were quite good in the second series but I do feel she didn't fit very well she seemed uncomfortable.
The scenes with Nora where good too, dust pans at dawn :)

I don't really like Walsh as much as I did Capstick. I loved their scenes with Capstick believing and telling the stories and Cooper doing his haunted face, best bits were with the cop car rolling down the hill and coming to a stop and making a groaning noise, and when the land rover had 'no driver'.

Is Julie T Wallace not quoted as not having a good rapport with Alan Bell. That would explain a lot. Must say that I did not reckon her a comedy actress anyway.

Not sure it registered before but have now realised that Mrs Avery is Doctor Hook's Sylvia's mother

I'd go for the 2 PC's.

Sorry, by "PCs", do you mean the policemen and, if so, which two?

Sorry should have said one PC, Louis Emerick's character, I thought Ken Kitson and Tony Capstick had more of a rapport

I would concur with most opinions that both Babs and Mrs Avery were no good in the show.

To be honest though I didn't really see the point of Nellie as a character.

Agree with CW, Emerick really spoiled it for me. Suddenly they're both grown up, not having Capstick as the less understanding. :(

The Two Drunks - No replacement for Eli, even though one was Eli Woods. Especially Eli Wood's character.

worst semi-regular was Babs for me and worst regular (when she became a regular) was Roz I weren't a fan of her but out of all the ladies in the show someone has to come last and she does probably cause of how posh she always came across as to me (probably the reason that Nelly is next to last to her in my list of worst regulars)

I think the thing with Mrs Avery and Babs was that with Bill Owen passing away it could have sent Roy Clark into a spin and he may have felt that he needed to try and balance things out again, I think he over compensated with those two especially with Babs.

I actually liked the character of Mrs. Avery but NOT Babs! I didn't care too
much for Nelly either. The only reason she was in the show, I reckon, was to replace Roz...and I did like Roz.

I didn't mind Ms. Avery. She was not funny but in a comedy, not every character has to be funny. Sometimes a straight or more normal character can compliment the comedy of the other characters.

Babs, was of course, out there. However, her stay didn't last long and her roles were minor.

I often have a bias toward the old ladies, largely because they remind me of my grandmothers. While my late grandmother on my dad's side reminded me of Nora, it is Roz that reminds me of my other grandmother. Characters like Roz, Ms. Partridge (in later years) and Glenda are needed to balance things out with the more stern ladies, Nora, Pearl, and Ivy.

For a long while there was no one I didn't like, but after compo died a there was a few I didn't take to. First was Tom, I didn't like him being on the make and dodging the repo man all the time, but I came to like him when he teamed up with Smiller. Entwistle took a while to get used to but the two I really didn't like and spoiled the the program for me were the woman who replaced Nora. And Rus Abbot, he was fetched in to be a kind of Foggy person, but the man was. clearly insane and needed help.

Regarding previous posts critical of Ms. Avery; being one of the lead roles in what I believe is a great episode, The Missing Bus of Ms, Avery, gives her a lot of credit. That helps me fully accept her.

The Missing Bus of Mrs. Avery was a favorite of mine . Makes me laugh when they bring her out of the pub!
