I am starting this thread so that George can tell us more of his jokes which I enjoy. The conversation was in regards to Welsh and the Scottish. Please forgive my ignorance but I thought Scottish were Welsh? ??? I need to go back to school, eh?

;)

Yes I see my ignorance is showing. I hope no one is offended. I see it is it's own country but a part of the UK. So sorry. I should read and study before I ask questions so I don't offend. Head down....and I will stand over there.... :(

Hello bwingate, You would be surprised how many of us Brits get it wrong,Some fly the Union jack flag thinking it is the flag for England....When the actual flag for England is the cross of Saint George ( red cross on a white background). ::)

Careful, there are two components of the Union Flag meeting that criteria:

Cannot find a YouTube. (Never say YouTube to anyone in Glasgow, by the way.) This is a good starting point:

Church of England, although sometimes desribed as a Catholic Church, is not the same as the Roman Catholic Church which is what I assume you mean by Catholicism. By way of trivial example, city of Liverpool has both Anglican (Church of England) and Roman Catholic cathedrals.

From what I can ascertain, the equivalent of the Church of England in USA is the Episcopal Church. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Episcopal_Church_(United_States)
It is part of the Anglican Community which gives its ties with the Church of England.

Of course, in the USA the Roman Catholic Church is the same as the Roman Catholic Church throughout the world with its allegiance to the Vatican and the Pope.

Absolutely correct: the use of the word 'catholic' in creeds and so on in the Anglican confession is in the sense of universal and always with a small c. However there are also Anglo-catholics but that is not the sort of thing to discuss o ;) ;) a family forum like this! I could write a lot about this but will refrain as it will probably bore most of you and can arouse all sorts of antipathies that are not good for our souls! ??? :p

Well I am just glad I wasn't thrown out of the forum. ;D I really am interested partly because I believe my ancestors have come from the UK to America but according to DNA my ancestors are from the Scandinavian area and partly from Southern Europe which I believe is Italy or Spain. The more I learn, without offending anyone of course, the better I can understand why I am here and not there.... ;) Thanks for all your help. :D
