I've been keeping a list of the times Compo's Matchbox appeared, like I did with the list of names the natives had for Foggy. I've started my viewing of Series 19. Here is what I have so far, with the exception of whether it appeared in "Barry's Christmas" I haven't viewed that episode yet (waiting for Christmas day to watch it like I did "What Santa Brought for Nora".

Episodes with Compo's Matchbox
--------------------------------

Isometrics and After - (Foggy)
Flower Power Cut - (Foggy)
Whoops - (Ivy)
Car and Garter - (Wesley)
Serenade for Tight Jeans and Metal Detector - (Nora, Clegg)
The Three Astaires - (Lydia the vicar's wife)
Getting Sam Home - (Clegg)
The Mysterious Feet of Nora Batty - (Female bar patron, Clegg)
Uncle of the Bride - (Looking at it himself during the wedding till Seymour nudges him from behind)
Big Day at Dream Acres - (Female bar patron)
The Experiment - (Nora)
The Kiss and Mavis Poskitt - (Female bar patron)
Das (Welly) Boot - (Female bar patron)
Ordeal by Trousers (Different matchbox with beetle - Foggy, Clegg)
Have You Got A Light Mate - (Customer in Cafe)
The Dewhursts of Ogleby Hall - (Customers in Co-Op)
A Leg Up for Christmas - (Female bar patron)

And none of us any the wisr for what was really in it.

One thing - not female as Norman Clegg not worrid about it!

They say, actually nobody knew what was in it, not even Bill Owen :D.

That would make sense: in fact a lot of the mystique was, I beleive, in part due to Wake up to Wogan which majored on wrinkled stockings and the match box if my memeory serves me well.

Just watched "Beware the Vanilla Slice" and after a series and a half Compo's mysterious matchbox returns for an appearance. This time Compo shows it to a bar maid.

Just an updating of the list..

Just watched "Last Post and Pigeon" and Compo pulls out the matchbox on the French Proprieter in Dunkerque.

I noticed that. After the update I decided to do a count of who all got it most. Female Bar Patrons and Cleggy..

Yes but Cleggy just looks amused - the female bar people whether bystandrs or whatever, seem to react more vocally!
