Sadly it was throat cancer which was to kill him. Tony Melody did the dubbing.

Shame, I really love Sid and Ivy together, they could of gone on for years with some great scenes

Didn't Tony Melody play a drunken man in some very later episodes
with Cooper and Walsh?

He was the landlord in "The Second Husband and the Showgirls".

Tony Barton did two episodes as a drunk - "A Short Introduction to Cooper's Rules" and "The Crowcroft Challenge" and one as a Landlord, "The Most Powerful Eyeballs in West Yorkshire"

if you enjoyed sid and ivy's relationship can i suggest you see where it all stemmed from....if you go onto you tube and enter THE FISHING PARTY you"ll see.... a wonderful early 70's play about 3 yorkshire miners having a weekend away in whitby...watchable again and again.. :)
