Great photos, i never tire of seeing pics of the area :)

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

Same here ferret, I love seeing pictures from across the pond. Looks so peaceful, I would love to sit outside a building like in the pictures and drink some tea and say hello to all that walks by. Thank you for posting.

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

I enjoyed these....so peaceful and beautiful. Here in U.S. we over use cement. I love the natural stone used in the roads and bridges.

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

Lovely pics...I for one feel very lucky to live within a 30 drive from holmfirth,So i am able to see the these places for real,The pics must be a real tonic for our overseas friends on the forum... :)

Absolutely Yorkhire Puddin! I am amazed how natural everything looks. Someday my daughters and I must visit there.

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

Greetings from across the pond. Very nice pictures and someday I'll have to get over there.

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

Since I'm new here I don't know about Marsden. Were some or part of the episodes filmed there? It is beautiful.

I would like my ashes scattered in Holmfirth or on that lovely stone bridge in the country.

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

Marsden is a lovely little village not far from Holmfirth.
Auntie's shop was just off the main street thru Marsden,
and there is a wonderful brewery-owned pub there as
well.

There is a nice walk along the narrow canal out to
another wonderful pub, and the tunnel-end where the
canal boats went under the hill. Some great walking from
Marsden as well. First time we went, we took a bus from
Holmfirth to Marsden, and the driver gave us a narrated
tour along the way.

I'm envious! My surroundings consist of desert, big box stores, and casinos (in the distance).

A High Percentage of the show was filmed in Marsden over the years

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

I did not know that. I thought it was all filmed in Holmfirth.

Could someone please say my name a few times in Marsden and Holmfirth? In front of Clegg's house and Seymour's. That is the only way I will get there.

The later Cleggys house was in Jackson Bridge about 6 miles from Holmfirth,Seymours house was about 2 miles away,if you look at the maps section on the main website you can see where a lot of the episodes were filmed

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

Nancy, not sure how much of the entire series you have seen,
but although Clegg (and Howard and Pearl) started in the
Holmfirth dwelling, they "were moved" later to the
long-running Jackson Bridge building where they remained till
the end. Think they were moved in the episode Das (Welly) Boot.

Although Jackson Bridge is a short over-the-hill walk
from Holmfirth, the views and the neighboring stuff is
wholly different. Do not think they frequented The
Butchers Arms pub (in Hepworth) till they moved to
Jackson Bridge.

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

You have maps? Man, this is a totally awesome forum. I will definitely check them out.

I have seen the episodes that featured Clegg's and Howard's first homes. I liked the interior of Clegg's first home and the exterior of the second.

I must say, though, that I really don't want to know too much behind the scenes info as then it will seem the show isn't real. Sounds silly as I know it isn't real.

Re: Some of My Early Marsden & Holmfirth Views

Nancy, to tell the truth, I cannot make heads or tails
out of the Maps on the summerwine.net home page.
All those blue balloons kinda mess it up and I cannot
see where I am. But if you use a Google map to
look at Holmfirth, Marsden, Jackson Bridge, and
Hepworth, you will see a large part of what there
was on the show.

Then ... YA GOTTA GO OVER!!!!!

Chuck if you zoom in on the map the balloons get smaller and then pinpoint the actual area used in filming
