    Not a TV series, but apart from the mock violence Laurel & Hardy was not offensive and had a nice surreal quality at times.

    Clarence with Ronnie Barker has already been mentioned. Roy Clarke's The Magnificent Evans with Ronnie Barker is also very mellow and worth a look.

    This is presently on Forces TV on ch181 I've seen a few episodes. On the subject of Fresh Fields is the later spin off French Fields just as good?
