Hello fellow Summer Wino's

Somewhat tempted to hire a car (or bicycle) for exploring Holmfirth, but after many decades of driving on the other side of the road... Walking may be a wiser and healthier thing to do.

A few years back I tried to look up bus tables to see if there was a way to get to that area. The transport websites did not make it easy to look that up, especially if one is not used to using buses.
A bicycle would limit your exploration to Huddersfield/Woodhead Road and Hollowgate unless you're up for riding on hills.

Was https://www.traveline.info/ available the last time you looked at bus transport? It's accurate and quite thorough. How closely the actual busses adhere to the times shown is another matter entirely. In my admittedly out-of-date experience, the buses between Holmfirth and Huddersfield run pretty close to the published time.

Welcome @Alexo, really hope you stick around on this site. You'll love it I promise!

Hopefully you can make it down to Mid Summer Wine Day in June!
Thanks for the welcome @Barrychuckle.
Really enjoying the last few days since joining, should have done it years ago really so I'll definitely be sticking around.
I do hope I'm able to come in June if I can make it work.
Be great to know if there are any other barmpots as far south as me (Cheltenham) or even further that wouldn't mind sharing their journey up.
I don't drive but would certainly pay for fuel costs for anyone kind enough to pick me up en route.
Otherwise I'll try and train and bus it up.

I don't think sadly there is anyone down your neck of the woods in the Southwest. If you can get the train up, head to Huddersfield, you can get the bus I think into Holmfirth from there. Also there are more Ubers around there than anywhere else I've encountered so they're cheap as chips. You could probably get a taxi from the station to the centre of Holmfirth for less than a tenner.

The Huddersfield bus station isn't far from the rail station, but it's up a hill. That has always put me off when I've arrived with luggage. There's a taxi rank outside the rail station, but always inquire of the driver whether or not they know the way to Holmfirth. I've encountered a few who don't. Occasionally, I've reserved in advance with Mount Taxis (https://mounttaxis.co.uk/), and always experienced prompt, courteous service for a reasonable fare.
