I think Hill Street was such a great choice for the move, it ticked all the boxes.
Off of a main road and on a quiet dead end road so no through traffic or pedestrians.
Out of the centre of Holmfirth so not as busy or noisy.
Loads of space for filming all the action and fitting all the cast and crew and to top it off I think it's a stunningly beautiful location that looks great on camera in all directions.
If I remember correctly in AJB's book, there was initially a problem with a resident of Hill Street refusing permission to film as he apparently hated the show and also owned the right of way in front of the row.
The objectors wife quietly informed Alan that he secretly loved the show and that Marina was his favourite character.
Within an hour of the rejection, Alan rocked up to his front door with Jean Fergusson and introduced her to him, after which he withdrew all objections and allowed them to film!
