    Series Thirty And Thirty One.

It may not be a popular viewpoint but I would say that in terms of structure that the final two series are better than the episodes that had gone immediately before. Having a main 3 was a better idea than just having around 16 supporting characters which had happened in Series 29. I think...

    Series Six

I agree about the quality of this series. And interesting to see Dougie (the owner of the second hand shop) as he was a definite precursor to Auntie Wainwright.

    Series Five

I agree about the terrible use of stuntmen in this series. Deep in the Heart of Yorkshire is interesting as it is perhaps the only episode to essentially be remade later on (to a large extent).

    Series Three

Yep, this was the start of greatness with Foggy making the show cuddlier and more lovable. Also, when I watched it again recently I was struck once more by how much more mature some of the subjects were than what would follow later. It may be my bad memory but I think there is a joke about...

Help Needed to get the show made

That is indeed of crucial import.

Possibly the nearest we can get to a new show

My thoughts...which are intended to be constructive even if they are not always positive... These two characters are among the strongest from the later series of the show so this is not a bad idea and it was nice to see them again. The writing however (and I am not sure who the writer was of...

Oh no, not another thread on Compo replacements and Keith Clifford under-used

I do understand your point but I think the DVD guys have made the right decision on the new DVD cover. If you have Tom Owen on the cover then for people seeing it in the stores there would be two main reactions imo: `Who`s that?` and `He wasn`t very good`. If you have Keith Clifford on the...

Who would be in it ?

I have a few random thoughts... The first is that far too many old shows are brought back on TV. Over the past few years we have had To the Manor Born, Reggie Perrin, Red Dwarf, Still Open All Hours, Yes, Minister and doubtless some that I`ve forgotten. Generally speaking I don`t think these...

    Save Compos Memorial Garden

Very good to read that news paper article. Hopefully the statue does go ahead without a problem.

    Full Steam Behind.

I`m not sure those 3 actors had a blast filming any episodes together to be honest. ;)

    Full Steam Behind.

I only saw this episode for the first time recently and I certainly think it is one of the strongest in the show`s entire run. Foggy may well not have mentioned trains before but I still don`t think it is out of character for him. It fits in very well I think and many people who certainly...

    Worth a Watch

These certainly are interesting and I would say that the one with the preview show is the best of the bunch. They certainly put a lot of effort into entertaining the crowd with the likes of Burt Kwouk, Frank Thornton and even Norman Wisdom in attendance. Nice to see a couple of outttakes as well.

    August 2014 ask Codfanglers

What are your thoughts on Roy Clarke`s other TV shows and what do you think about the return of Still Open All Hours? What are your other favourite UK comedy shows? And which recent US TV shows would you recommend to us bad teethed Brits? :42:

Opening Credits vs End Credits - Juliette Kaplan's name almost never up front?

I had never noticed this before and having checked out quite a few episodes, it is interesting that Juliette Kaplan is very rarely listed at the start of the show even in later post-Compo series. Sarah Thomas, Mike Grady, Stephen Lewis, Josephine Tewson etc. all seem to get listed more than her...

New sitcom featuring Summer Wine stars...

No link to Alan Bell or Roy Clarke. I meant because the absence of Summer Wine (and As Time Goes By I suppose) has left a silver coloured hole in the TV schedules. It makes sense for the BBC to try to appeal to that specific demographic with at least one show.

New sitcom featuring Summer Wine stars...

Absolutely. Philip Jackson started out in Porridge and since then has appeared in pretty much everything (including bizarrely A-ha`s pop video for Take On Me!). I would love to know if Alan Bell ever contacted him to ask whether he would be willing to reprise his role as Gordon. Particularly...

New sitcom featuring Summer Wine stars...

Apologies if this is mentioned elsewhere on the board but the new sitcom `Boomers` (the pilot was called Grey Mates I believe) starts tomorrow on BBC One. It stars many TV stalwarts including Russ Abbot, June Whitfield and Philip Jackson (along with Alison Steadman, Stephanie Beacham, Paula...

    Three Men And A Mangle.

I would certainly say that the situation got worse after Foggy had left and Truly had joined... And although Eli was shoehorned in, that doesn`t bother me so much simply because they didn`t have to really take any time introducing him in each episode. He came on, did a bit of tomfoolery and...

    August 2014 ask Codfanglers

Thanks for the reply. I`m interested as to why you feel the show slipped after Series 12. And in what ways you think it improved during the Truly era (though of course I understand, as you said, that as you started with this era it is special to you for that reason).

    Three Men And A Mangle.

Exactly. They interrupted themselves. They didn`t have a ladies tea party occurring onstage though or have a 50-something couple talking about the captain of the golf club. ;) I completely agree that having the main characters in Summer Wine sit around and talk nonsense was an integral part of...
