How things change over the years

We used to have those big tins every Christmas, in the early 1980s. They really were filled to top with chocolates, none of this half-filled nonsense we see everywhere now. I seem to recall those tins were incredibly expensive back in the early 1980s - something like £5 then - which is about...

Why is Getting Sam Home so different?

It was written as a novel from nearly 10 years before, with Blamire instead of Foggy. The book was written with very earthy dialogue and conversation, and despite that, the film is considerably cleaner than the book. For some reason, the book used different 'language' to even the gritty Series...

Why did season three feature Gordon?

Series Three also had other recurring characters - Big Malcolm was in two episodes. The Man from Oswestry wasn't going be part of Series Three - it was hastily written when Michael Bates decided he wasn't well enough to appear in that series to introduce Foggy. So, this probably gave Big...

Does "The Wild Blue Yonder" point toward more physical episodes?

I think the show first got 'physical' as early as Series Two, with the Blamire episode Ballad for Wind Instruments and Canoe.

Getting Sam Home getting an Xmas Eve BBC4 showing

I don't understand why One Foot in the Algarve would need restoring. Admittedly it's 30 years old now, but this was made at a time when vintage programmes were treasured, and lost programmes were much sought after - so surely this programme should have been preserved and kept in pristine...

Classic bags of Crisps that are no more

They weren't in a bag, they were in a tube. Cadbury's Stackers - these were before Pringles, and in a very similar sized tube - and tasted even better.

Would you have realised it was someone else's voice if you hadn't been told?

    First of the Summer Wine.

If they brought that show back, with the same actors, 34 years after it ended, I suppose the show would be somewhere around 1973 - when the original programme began. Technically they could make new episodes that would complement Series One of LOTSW. Of course, it wouldn't be the same.

Absolute perfection. Brilliant idea, and so helpful to see at a glance who was in each series.

Very reasonably sure it doesn't contain honey. Probably one molecule away from being uPVC plastic.
