    Mrs. Partridge

IIRC he had a thing for any woman working in the library!

    Its never 15 years

Worse still, most of the cast are sadly gone.

    Peter Sallis

I have to agree that the Sallis autobio is a bit dull.

    Peter Sallis

Didn't realise she`d written one so. My late auntie knew her from church, so another reason to look into it.

    Peter Sallis

A couple of years ago I read his autobiography but was disappointed that he didn't devote much of the book to SW. It gives the impression he was a frustrated actor who wanted to do more serious work. One interesting revelation, IIRC, is that he didn't like Thora Hird because she tended to hold...

    Interviews with Summer Wine cast

Thanks. We`re watching the SW boxset and Wally is one of our favourite characters. I tried to find an interview with Joe Gladwin and found that site so thought it worth sharing.

Holmfirth was just the perfect location

It was Rotherham, not Doncaster. That was ruled out for being too industrial IIRC.

Your favourite quotes from Last Of The Summer Wine. I'll begin

I was born in Ashton and lived there till I was 4.

    Gentle Comedies

I think there may be some eps of this on YouTube: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_Gas_and_Gaiters

    It takes a village?

There seems to be little in the way of comedies which appeal to all age groups these days.

Whither and Wheretofore Howard, Pearl and Marina?

I think there`s one episode where Marina kisses him fully on the lips and he seems quite surprised.

First of the Summer Wine on YouTube

Me too. Me too. And those prequels IMO miss the point of the original comedy that you don`t need to know what the characters were like in their youth.

    How important is the setting?

AFAIK Summer Wine was unusual for a sitcom in having lots of location scenes and the setting was far from standard. The town and surrounding countryside were a character in themselves.

Whither and Wheretofore Howard, Pearl and Marina?

Howard, Pearl and Marina were great additions to the show even if not needed. Adultery is certainly no fun for the wronged party, but LotSW is a comic world and not meant to be taken seriously, and if being honest comedy often comes from someone`s misfortune.

First of the Summer Wine on YouTube

Maybe I`m an outlier but First of the Summer Wine didn`t interest me. Like Rock and Chips which is the prequel for Only Fools and Horses these things never reach the heights of the original.

    A UK Drama Rant!!!!

I watch YT through my TV so unfortunately I don`t think it`s possible to block the ads on that.

    A UK Drama Rant!!!!

Yeah, there comes a point where there`s too many ads that it`s pointless trying to watch a programme. I watch a lot of stuff on YouTube and the ads on there are getting worse in length, but as yet I can`t afford to pay for premium. It`s particularly annoying when watching things like hiking...

    A UK Drama Rant!!!!

I hate adverts. And some are so stupid or annoying that I seriously wonder how the people who make them don`t feel like their working lives are utterly demoralising. They even have the nerve to call themselves creatives.
