    Acting Chops

Eddie Albert, also from Green Acres and other things was also, in real life, a WW2 hero. He was in the Navy in the Pacific and saved Marines during the landings at Tarawa. As another sideways step in this thread :13: when you look at a lot of the "older" actors there are quite a few who did...

    Acting Chops

I agree with most of what you say bigcat but I am of the opposite view re Ronnie Barker in Open All Hours. That is the ONE show he is in that I believe he is NOT Ronnie Barker..I only see Arkwright! I have seen most of his shows over the years and he is BRILLIANT but I always see...

    Car Insurance

Adanor, I think the US is the only country left that uses "checks" (For us edumacated people we call them cheques!;) ) as a mainstream payment method. I know here in Oz they were pretty much abandoned years ago. Not sure if they are totally gone but you certainly don't see them being used anymore.

    Car Insurance

Sorry to hear that Barry. I don't own an EV (Note to self....."Discipline 007, discipline!") or anything by Jaguar/Landrover but I have heard the horror stories about them particularly in the UK, and that includes the insurance. Sadly over here some, even well known "luxury" brands, do not have...

    Car Insurance

Hey.. I learned to drive on a van like that....it was a Commer though! :) Insurance over here has gone up massively too, not just on cars, but on homes and property too! Price gouging by almost every type of business is getting out of control. Funny thing here is that everybody has been...

    Barry's Ties

I have noticed Barry's tie too......but for a different reason....I have one exactly the same! I haven't worn a tie in years (I don't think I have worn one this CENTURY) but I still have a couple of OLD ones and one is the spitting image of Barry's!

    Disappearing Chocolate bars

Cadbury here has a factory in Tasmania so I am not sure if this was a world wide thing, but on Ferret's comment about the taste, I know that a few years ago the bean counters got their hands on things. They decided that a "Glass and a half" was costing too much so they replaced a lot of the milk...

    Disappearing Chocolate bars

Sorry Adanor but Chocolate most definitely IS NOT just Chocolate. This is all a matter of taste, so no offence meant here but American chocolate is FOUL! I mean that quite literally, it has a chemical in it which is responsible for the smell of vomit! (don't believe me....look it up!!!) This...

    Vera in a Comedy

As for the Anne Cleeves books, I haven't read any, but am aware of them and I really liked the Shetland TV series (well up to the most recent without Perez. I tried to watch episode 1 of it but didn't even make it halfway through and that was on FAST FORWARD!

    Vera in a Comedy

No general offence was intended re ANY accent. I am aware of many accents around Britain and America and the rest of the world, some sound OK to me while others don't. It is basically due to what people grew up with and around. I grew up firstly in Scotland and secondly in Australia, neither of...

    Vera in a Comedy

Not really Captain. I watch SOME cop shows, not many but in this case (Stand by to be offended!!) its her voice! That accent at that pitch goes straight through me! I have caught bits and pieces when the boss is watching and the dialogue and voice frankly make me want to throw something at the...

    Vera in a Comedy

She was also in an old '80s British Sitcom with Simon Callow called "Chance in a Million". Not to everyone's taste I suspect, but I quite enjoyed it. She plays a VERY different, almost opposite, character to Vera. BTW I DON'T like or watch Vera, but the boss loves it.!
