One of the Geordie anthems Cushy Butterfield is about a real person who dug the clay and dried to make the Donkey Stones for cleaning steps and sold them for money to buy "hur beer" dig /dry during the day on the sauce late afternoon.
My parents were from Sunderland and I remember that name.
