Any Summer Wine References in Boyle's Olympic Show

Hello Folks,

I have been busy watching the Olympics (since it is only on once every 4years) and have not been at my computer so much. I really enjoyed Danny Boyle's presentation. By the way, George Bush Sr. parachutes off planes in his early 80's so I believe the queen could have actually done it with lots of precautions. Then that would have been quite a monumental moment!!!!

Anyway, in various parts of the show there were various British references. Earlier on, I thought "wouldn't it be wild to see some sort of Summer Wine reference" but that would have been too far fetched. Then theyraised the giant televisions where they showed brief clips of British cinema and programs. I think the television only caught a glimpse of it but I could swear I saw a clip of Fawlty Towers. So my question is, were there any Summer Wine references at all? If so, can someone describe it to me?

I loved the Rowen Atkinson bit but if he is going to get so much attention, surely they could have given the wonderful four decade program some love.

I thought exactly the same thing when I was watching the ceremony and saw the clips coming up!!! I was so tense I forgot to breathe for a moment, just in case there was a tiny glimpse, but I didn´t see any. I said to my mother they could have done it, I mean, LOTSW holds a world record, so why not give it one or two seconds?
I also liked the Rowan Atkinson bit, my mother has always been a Mr Bean fan, and I have always liked Chariots of Fire, though I never knew what it was called until I heard it in the Woollen Mills of your Mind or whatever episode it was, and read a comment about the name of the piece. In fact that was one of my favourite bits of the whole ceremony. Another was the little girl reading Peter Pan underneath her blanket.

I make it a practice to never watch the Olympics and am always the happier for it. Seen one, seen 'em all, boring. Same goes for the Super Bowl, always a good day to purposely avoid what you're told you have to watch.

wait a minute, you were expecting summat about summer wine in the olympic ceremony, never gonna happen unfortunately 1)the show isnt popular with the masses, 2)the channel the olympics were shown on in the home country hate last of the summer wine thats why they axed it, 3)it would have left more people scratching heads to why it was in there than those who wudnt.
i agree there should have been some sort of little nod 2 it, after all if they can do another long running and cult followed show like doctor who they can do summat with last of the summer wine

Thanks for the clarification, Eli. I don't quite know about Summer wine's popularity in England. At one point, I heard the Queen enjoyed Summer Wine and she seemed to be part of Boyle's show. If they can't even acknowledge Summer wine for one second in that presentation then I am baffled by them playing two Sex Pistols songs, one of which was God Save the Queen. So they would even include music with anti-Queen lyrics before acknowledging Summer Wine. Like I said before, I don't get it and I never will.
