I have just watched 'The Man from Oswestry' to cheer me up after all
the disappointment of recent months. What a treat the episode was and
it was lovely to see THE trio click straight away. The change over
from Cyril Blamire to Foggy was so brilliantly done it was seamless.I
also would like to say how much I miss Sid and his scenes with Ivy.
John Comer was a very underrated actor who I don't think got enough
credit for his contribution to the show.
I am looking forward to 'Mending Stuarts Leg' (not literally of course).Until
then "Here's to operation Sword Blade."

I agree 100% George. The man from Oswestry is a great episode and John Comer was always brilliant.

I also agree John Comer was never given the recognition he deserved for all his other supporting roles as well lotsw. Even when he died I remember only a small mention in the newspaper.

I know the feeling, George! After all the recent trouble and also the changes in the show (to its disadvantage, I´m afraid) it´s such a relief to watch the "real" episodes, taking you back to times when everything was still alright.

I regard those early years as the "golden" era when some times some regulars did not appear which I think added to the overall effect. For a long time until recently, the entire ensemble has been every episode which somehow, to my way of thought, meant you had almost unconnected sub-plots that did not develop the actual story.

There were several plots which spread over two episodes - and these allowed a situation to be exploited to the full.

I agree that the character of Sid was priceless - forever wanting to be with the trio but always being hauled back.

"It's all right for you lot - she chucks you out - me she keeps!" to quote one of his lines.

I agree, the character of Sid was priceless. I loved 'The Kink In Foggy's Niblick' when he finally managed to 'escape' with the boys. The scene in the Cafe between Sid and Ivy where he was making excuses still has me in stitiches. In fact for me all of the scenes between Sid and Ivy had me rolling, he was a fine character, much missed by all of us I would think.

I also loved 'Deep In The Heart Of Yorkshire' with Wally and himself as cowboys ;D
