I've just discovered that Roy Clarke was born in Austerfield just outside Doncaster, I think he still lives close by now. Interestingly there is a village called Scrooby just a few miles away, I'm guessing this is where he got the name from.
Scooby was a cartoon character talking dog in a Warner Brothers animation (maybe more than one?). Warner Brothers adopted the name "Scooby Doo" for one of their media franchises so the name appeared on US TV as a credit after a lot of their productions. I see where you are going with the above discussion and realize this may not be of any relevance, but then again, maybe it might. Now I will shut up and eat my choc ice.And don't forget Scrooby Do which was probably named after the place......
