Possibly/probably the lone voice crying out but I am really chuffed to read that Bob is going to receive the NOBEL PRIZE for Literature for his contributions to poetry The person who announced the award said his poetry is set to music but is valid none the less!:37::thumbsup::biggrin:

That's exactly what lyrics are -- poetry set to music. Well with what passes for music today, not so much.

He became known as one of the " Beat Poets" not long after he appeared on the scene!:42:

Another thing to remember is that through the sixties seventies and eighties there were very very few pop/folk groups that hadn't recorded one of Bob Dylans compositions. There were, still are a number of his songs that are regarded as classics.

Myself Amos ,I followed Bob from the very early sixties. I "grew " into his music so to speak. There is no hard and fast way of starting and so I might suggest his first "Best of............"album from 1967.Or you could have a look at some songs on U tube. If it piques your fancy You could have a look at BOBDYLAN.COM his official site.:42::smile:

In the realms of singer songwriters Dylan was never really on my radar for long , I cannot however detract from the quality of songs he has produced over the years ,the award is well deserved, its just I don't think he has a great voice and it has deteriorated over the years, but that ,of course , is my personal opinion .

The genre has never really been on my radar full time tend to dip in and out very spasmodically but someone recommended I give a listen to Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark . What a revelation I would never have bought it in a million years but now I am so glad I did .

He influenced a lot of people in the music business, but I repeat something I've said before "It would not do for us all to like the same things" :22: :03:

His length of time in the business and the number of cover versions of his material is a measure of his ability. Very much part of my formative years as a student - we all had to study English (and Maths and Divinity) as well as our main subjects as would be school teachers then.
