I have to do a couple of night shift's at work Thurs & Fri helping out in A&E. I really do hope that we do not see many firework related injuries, sad to say it is usually very busy. If any of you are having fireworks or going to a party please stay safe.

Hi Gill,

Sounds like you work in some kind of emergency room / health care trauma ward. If that is the case I do hope your shifts are uneventful. Guess you are having some kind of celebration coming up across the pond. Only one I can think of at the moment would be Guy Fawkes. Is that what you are referring to?

I really like your avatar pic of Marina. Would you be kind enough to point me to a larger digital copy of it, please?

Cheers,
Rick

Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder treason and plot;
I know of no reason
Why the Gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot!

Yes, Guy Fawkes night, a.k.a. bonfire night, is on the fifth. Bonfires and fireworks.

Hi Rick. I do work in a hospital and I am sometimes in the emergency department. I was talking about Guy Fawkes. As for the pic of Marina I took the photo from a magazine. A couple of years ago so i'm sorry Rick I can't get you a better picture.

Thank you index4u and Gill for the quick replies. That's alright about the pic, gill.

I do have a fond memory of Guy Fawkes. Many years ago I rented the DVD 'V for Vendetta' from Netflix and it arrived in early November. I had not read what the movie was about - did not want any spoilers, it just came up high on my recommended list. If you don't know it is a futuristic homage, sort of, to Guy Fawkes. Anyway, I popped the video in after having it sit around for a few days after a late evening of work. I'm watching it, it is early into the movie when V has Evey on the rooftop telling her about what is soon going to happen when the clock strikes midnight for the 5th of November. At that moment I realized what day it was and that it was late. I quickly looked at my watch and it was a few minutes to midnight going into the 5th of November!

That was a 'Wow, what are the odds of that happening?' kind of moment. I kid you not, that really did happen. It completely altered my perspective of the movie and made me like it even more. I do try to watch it every year on the 5th but have slipped the last few times. Thanks for reminding me, I will dust off the DVD and watch it tonight. It was true serendipity that it was placed in my queue, arrived when it did and was watched when I did.

Cheers,
Rick

edit. Wanted to say Thanks for your work as a care giver.

Good luck Gill, I live on the same road as a fire station and tonight and although the weekend they will be bombing past my house at regular intervals. I'm not a huge fan of fireworks so my nerves will be on edge for next few days.

Stay save everyone, have fun but be careful.

Gill,

Before I retired I worked shifts , not in such a commendable profession as yours, some of the nights were really quiet with very little work to do . Although it may be a long night I hope you have one of those extremely quiet evenings with little or no work to do, not only in the context of firework related incidents but all health issues in general.:)

Thank's everyone. I do hope we have a quiet night. Just gong to have a few hours sleep now start work at 9pm.

Hi everyone. It was a very busy night we had a steady stream of burn`s and other firework related injurie`s I think a lot of kid`s and teenager `s seem to like to throw fireworks at each other. One more night to do 9pm finish at 6am then a couple of day s off.

Reported this morning that Keighley was relatively trouble free last night, although there will be bonfires this evening and tomorrow as well.

We had more last night than we did Thursday and we're expecting more tonight but its pissistantly raining at the mo so that might dampen it down a bit.

Busy last night, some burn 's and injuries related to firework's but we had the usual Friday night alcahol problem's, people getting into fight's resulting in nasty injurie's etc. I have a few day's off now.

I went to a family firework party last night , we had no problems and it was quiet (relatively speaking) around us. Although it seemed that some one in the next street had spent more on one particular Roman Candle type firework than my daughter and son in law had spent on the whole lot!! My granddaughters enjoyed them though.:smile:

Hi Pete. I have never worked in S Yorkshire I have worked at the BRI for the past 23 years. I know one thing though. Alcahol abuse has become a big problem. I hope you enjoyed your time in Yorkshire.
