Bring Back Sherbet

If the Cooper & Walsh spin-off materialises I would love to see Paul Oldham,who played Sherbet in First of the Summer Wine,become a regular.Paul is now in his mid-40's so could play Sherbet's son/grandson.He could be a senior police officer or even a sort of lovable rogue.

I see him more as a market gardener, with a stall on the market selling the fruit and veg, that he's grown in his allotment.

I see Cooper and Walsh visiting him at the allotment, so that they can get out of the way of the Inspector, maybe even bringing the barbecue along?

I sent this email to Alan JW Bell;
"I have heard that Ken Kitson and Louis Emerick are in talks about
the possibility of reprising the Cooper and Walsh characters in a
spin-off series.
I hope you are going to be involved to make sure that the thing is
done right.
In First of the Summer Wine there was a character called Sherbet,who
was played by Paul Oldham,who was very popular with fans of the show.
Could I be so bold as to suggest that Paul Oldham apppear in the series
as Sherbet's son.He could be a senior officer or even a petty criminal.
I hope you don't mind me writing to you.I am a Summer Wine fan from
day one of the series and I think 'Sherbet' would be a nice link for
fans of both shows."
I received this reply today;
"Should there be a further series with Ken and Louis, it would have
most of the series cast in it as well, so I really couldn't use Sherbert
- at least not as a regular. First of the Summer Wine was snatched
from me by the then Head of Department (Gareth Gwenlan) for him to
make himself, consequently, I didn't bother to watch it out of sheer
pique.
Thanks all the same for the suggestion - but in any event, the Ken
and Louis series is far off being commissioned."

I think we should have a relative of Cleggy's who went to live near Lincolnshire or something like that - the one who had to get married in a hurry in 1939.

Or again, one of compo's nephews or nieces who've grown up quite a bit from their visit to Cannon Hall back in the early 1970s.

Shame none of Compos relatives came to his funeral, it would of been a nice touch if his nephew Gordan had turned up to pay his respects, like alot of characters he was instantly forgotten about. It would of been a nice nod of respect to early last of the summer wine.

Who knows?, maybe Phillip Jackson (Gordon) was busy with his Hurcule Poirot commitments as Chief inspector Japp.

Good point though.

never thought first of the summer wine was much good-glad to see it saw a different director.It would be good to see another show with a lot of the characters in.

Possibly too many of them passed on themsleves, or unable tio contact as his relatives always seemed to be on the edge of society

Fair points all round, I just thought it would be a nice touch. Gordan could even possibly bought his children if had any. A child version of Compo :).
