Christmas Party

I thought you said it was at Greggs this year?

Rather upmarket in Newcastle , within the Fenwicks store they have opened Greggs Champagne bar where you can enjoy their products with a glass of bubbly for example their sausage roll served with a hot honey chilli sauce which comes in at £4 , Cheese and Onion pastie[ they call them bakes now] with Romesco sauce £4.75 cheapest drink is a bill and ben'r £10 for a glass of Prosecco or £37 a bottle :eek:

I have found the ideal place for us to have the Christmas Party, here is the menu, I fancy the Crab salad at 6d following by Bovril & Milk at 3d

On the subject of yesteryear prices, I pointed out to my mates a few weekends ago that I was paying less for a pint in Wetherspoons than I did when I started drinking in the very early 90's!

We used to pay £1.85 at my local when I was 18 and many of the real ales in 'Spoons are £1.79, I even used CAMRA vouchers which give 50p off so I was paying £1.29 a pint!!!!! Fair play to them particularly when some of the more trendy pubs charge over £6 for a pint near me!!!!!!

Was in a Spoons in Newcastle on Tuesday when Sir Tim Martin made a surprise visit checking on his Milecastle refurb lots of the barflies were staggering up to shake his hand . I have heard he has stated that whilst beer was marked down 1p a pint in the budget he will inevitably have to increase prices because of the effect of NI increase, I imagine it will have to happen across all hospitality businesses .

Yes I did have to grin when I heard a BBC commentator stating that with the budget discount for every 499 pints you buy you'll get the 500th free at the UK average price of a pint :p

Speaking of discount a few years back when they first brought out reward cards in the pub where you bought a pint and they stamped the card a friend of mine bought and drank ten pints and then cashed in the full card for an eleventh . When he got home eventually he got a Nora like tongue lashing and was told in no uncertain manner that his tea was in the oven and don't think about anything else other than eating every last morsel.
As he staggard to the oven and opened the door he saw it was a Salad :37: and looking a tad worse for wear , he dutifully ate every morsel, two hours later he brought it up in the big white telephone along with the remnants of the beer. Undoubtedly some dollup of a Chef has at sometime thought a Salad served warm is a good idea , we thought for my friend's dish an appropriate name for a menu was Vesuvius Salad.

"Warm Salad. That's a very 'shi-shi' starter" (Dolly: dinnerladies)
