Well, I finally broke down and bought a new computer. Well it's been a process and a learning experience. The positive note is that I now have more than one GB.

I have also been learning about the joys of modern tech, I treated myself to a 28" 4K computer monitor, I had checked my graphics card would support 4K and it stated it would, plugged it all in and it does look good, but to get true 4K the monitor needs to be connected via a display port on the graphics cards and my card does not have a display port connector, so I have ordered a new graphics card, but this is not the end of it, this higher spec graphic cards require more power and my current power supply would be running flat out with the new card,so I have also ordered a bigger power supply,I will let you know what it all looks like once it is done

Now fully running with 4K and it is very good,quality of the graphics is outstanding

This computer is running well. I don't miss the hard drive grinding away like a garbage disposal on a chicken bone.
