I am sure I may have brought this up before but felt I should mention it. I visited my wife's grave yesterday with fresh flowers and as I stood on the hillside a lady of "mature" years passed me and I remarked on how cold it blew on the hill. She agreed with me and we shared a moments chatting.
After I said cheerio and was walking to the gates I passed two teenagers and mentioned they would need to keep their coats wrapped round ,it was blowing blooming cold where we were. They'd got flowers and were obviously on the same errand that I had been on. They looked at me gob-smacked as though I had grown two heads. I got no answer so I passed on .
Closer to the gate I passed a couple nearer my age and remarked on the cold. We spent a few moments and then parted.
It made me wonder about the younger generation and would they be chatting like the older people when they hit advancing years?
My son visited me later and I told him about this. His explanation was that the younger people had had so many years of "don't speak to strangers" that they did not know how to! A good thing in one way but it may lead to a lonely old age!! :frown: My late wife often amazed me by how many people would virtually tell her their life story's as we were out .

I get a similar reaction when I walk round to get my morning paper. People of my age always say good morning but the younger ones just look down at the ground. Unless of course they have something stuck in their ears or a beam me up Scottie machine in their hand.

Me too HJ , to the young ones I might as well be invisible . To the older ones I may be the only stranger they speak to all day, so I'm not about to ignore them. . I've gotten better reactions from shall we say " new arrivals" Who tend to treat their old folk with more respect! :03:

About 6 months ago McDonalds ran an ad featuring a young and old guy , young guy was with his friends listening to rap music , old guy was listening to jazz, old guy dressed to the nines shirt and tie and I think the young guy and his friends were in T shirts trousers low slung etc and it finished with them all in McDonalds the punch line being the old guy and young lad ate their McFries the same way .

I suppose they were saying that despite all of their differences there was something that would unite them . Much as a I detest McDonalds for what they stand for and what they sell I suppose it was very poignant because it shows that the young and old people have very little or nothing in common today and Dick/HJ your posts sadly reflect that accurately.

Dick you should of text them

Dick absolutely right: today I had to go into town for an x ray and met two or three people and had a chat and often have chats with complete strangers in cafes. But these are people of near my age.
