Recently, I get to watch LOTSW with this constantly flashing colored line at the top. Nobody at the cable company seems to have noticed. Also happens with other BritWit like Open All Hours, but not other British shows like Midsomer Murders.
 
Don't want to appear patronising but is there any chance you could experiment changing the screen ratio setting on your TV so it doesn't appear . There are similar issues showing non-HD recordings on HD channel you get the narrow screen with two black borders, some channels have SD equivalent and I always try to watch older recordings on them.
