Eggs

I keep seeing that in the USA eggs are difficult to get and expensive, maybe our members across the pond can explain why they have this issue, here in the UK I can get 6 free range large eggs for around $1.50

Depends on the region. Here in upstate New York, where bird flu is less prevalent, store brand grade AA large eggs are $6.69/dozen. They're usually sold by the dozen or 1 1/2 dozen. Seldom see 1/2 dozen for sale.

My niece breeds and raises a couple of varieties of bantams. She's being very careful to stay away from everyone else's flocks, as well as avoiding waterfowl, dairy cows and cats.

That lady at the house next to me sells 1/2 dozen eggs in a little wooden honesty box by the roadside for £1.20 if she were selling them in the US she may need security measures hearing about the prices over there :p
