Robert Ludlum, Michael Connolly and any thing crime and or adventure. Pure escapism .Favourite book ever was The Eagle Has Landed! The spinoffs from it were very good too.:33:

Spike Milligan for pure off the wall entertainment who else would stop a book for the main character to complain about the legs he had been given and castigating the author for giving him skinny legs and implying that as author I bet you've got a good pair of legs [Puckoon] . I find my tastes have changed over the years early days read all the Bond books and a lot of Tom Sharpe .I now seem to read more and more biographies plus Terry Pratchett and just recently started with Agatha Christie again . With me its a mix of E-books and Paper/Hardbacks . I also find I have become a more avid reader as the years have gone by not as many distractions as you get when you are younger . Any recommendations from members for cannot put down books would be very much appreciated ,thank you in advance.

I'd forgotten about Spike :39: I read all his war books as paperbacks , his biography is worth a look, also his Bible according to Milligan. I read most of the Discworld books and I found time to read my wife's Agatha Christies. She was such a fan that the T v adaptations came in for some stick by not being true to the books .

My favorite novelist, and the only one I reread, is Barbara Pym. They're best reas in the order written (not necessarily the same as publication order), because main characters often make cameo appearances in later books, and if you haven't read the earlier book you'll miss the joke.

My first love, though, is cozy mysteries, mostly British, especially the ones of the '30s, as well as more recent books of the same type. My top favorite author is Dorothy Sayers, along with the follow-up books by Jill Payton Walsh. I also enjoy Margery Allingham, Josephine Tey, Ellis Peters (the Felse Family series more than Brother Cadfael), Louise Penny, Martha Grimes, Hazel Holt, Rhys Bowan, Nicola Upson, Jane Langton, Leslie Cookman, Sara Rosette, Marcia Talley and Charlotte MacLeod, approximately in that order of preference.

I read most of the classic authors at school Amos . We had to read them over the term and were either tested on them or had to write a "precis" version for end of term. It was difficult condensing 300 pages down to 4 0r 5 foolscap sheets.

Many authors feature in my library! Some are academic, some more popular and cover a variety of disciplines as anyone with my career variation might well have. Few have more than five volumes so Roy Clarke must feature highly as I have six by him: the original novel, the pilot and first series scripts, two chronicles, the one with some superb photographs and the more recent stage play. My most frequent auhtoirs are C S Lewis and N T Wright both with 20 plus each but that reflects a professional interest.
