Today on Gold they showed the first episode its amazing how much was crammed into this episode ,how young everyone looked and how distgusting Compo was.Cyril Blamire is a terrific character and Clegg has long hair but its the dialogue that makes it great "stuffing broken buiscuits down a girls front" you cant beat it.

Yes I do agree I love the Blamire era too, the dialogue is wonderful, I believe it was shown a little later in the evening than the later series. one of my favourites is "The changing face of Rural Blamire" it has me in stitches.

Yes, I quite like the Blamire era as well, even though it was for only 2 series. It does make you wonder how LOTSW would have developed had Michael Bates not died so young. He was only 58 and young enough to have gone on for a long time, notwithstanding illness. We might never have seen Foggy and Seymour.

I still think that the very first episode, Of Funerals and Fish, will
always be my very favorite. Not just because it was the very first,
but it tells a wonderful story. (My second overall favorite has
to be Full Steam Behind.)

Ill go with Amos and Onyx with Hail Smiling Morn.Another one that always stands out for me is "The Mobile Trio".I really like most of the Blamire era apart from "A Quiet Drink" and "Northern Flying Circus"

Wasn't 'Full Steam' Peter Sallis' favourite? One episode from the Blamire years I have not seen mentioned and which I thought brilliant from many viewpoints is "Ballad for Wind Instruments and Canoe"

Ballad for wind instruments and a canoe was brilliant the outfits the chaps wore were terrific.
