I noticed than when the trio start to chase the loco, as the loco exits the tunnel the cab door is closed, a few seconds later it is open, I suspect it was closed in the shot so the driver could hide

Probaly very correct -must have been quite cramped with a driver, fireman and our intrepid threesome on the footplate.
