My of Auf Weidersehen Pet series 1&2 arrived today from Amazon when the guy's were in Germany, England and Spain. I remember watching it when it was first on TV and loving it. Did anybody else like it?

As a Geordie of course I loved it put us on the map . I paid homage recently on a short trip to Dusseldorf where it all started . Amazingly most of the surviving cast still get together annually for Charity at the Newcastle City Hall and present a show Sunday for Sammy which they have done without fail since 2000 . It is a memorial to an actor who had a small part in Pet and played Stick in Jimmy Nail's Spender, Sammy Jackson , who tragically died aged 49 jogging in Spain . The proceeds mostly go to upcoming local performers in the Newcastle area to give them a lift with their career and to nurture their talent. Often see Tim Healy at local gigs he is a big supporter of local bands and singers . I suppose Timothy Spall and he have had the most success since the show closely followed by Kevin Whately. I might follow suit and purchase the DVD's myself.

Sorry to be so confused. When I read the PET, I immediately
thought of Vera, also a Geordie (I believe) and was hoping
that series would pick up. No such luck. Anyone else
watch Vera??

I , to my shame especially as its set and filmed around the Newcastle and Northumberland area , have never watched the detective series but in essence it is "Geordie" by location ,perhaps another to add to my growing DVD wishlist .

I loved Auf Weidersehen Pet, great series. I 'rediscovered' it a few years back and watched it again. It has stood the test of time well which is always the mark of a great series. It made stars of so many great actors, Timothy Spall in particular who has had a very prolific career ever since.

I enjoyed SPENDER but never really took to " PET" although I watched it with my wife who liked the humour!:28:

Hello Pe

I enjoyed Spender , they shot some of it around where I live but what a Prima Donna Jimmy Nail had turned into by then . He tried to get streets closed off and ordered that all kids would go nowhere the set , when of course they did he stormed off to his trailer and refused to come out until they were moved . A friend of mine experienced a similar problem at the same time with him .

There was a very small Teppanyaki opened in the City Centre near Newcastle's ground , within which there were two tables . My friend and his party were at one and Jimmy Nail and his cronies were booked on the other. When they turned up he demanded sole access to the restaurant and insisted my friend's party leave or he would take his custom elsewhere. Unbelievably the owner took his side and my friend's party were asked to leave , despite the ensuing row they eventually relented and left .

He was effectively at one time the same as the Oz character he played in Pet but as his fame grew so apparently did his head . Sad really because the other Geordie's in the shows , including his sister Val McLean, are so down to earth.

I always catch Vera when they run it and it is always interesting. Oddly enough, I especially enjoy the moody scenes where she stands in the cold wind and stares out over the ocean.
