Arrived around mid-day. Lunch at Sid's — tomato & beetroot soup, ham & cheese toastie on brown bread, mug of Yorkshire tea. Waved at everyone as I passed the window where the live cam lives as I entered the park on the way to the Co-op for dinner nibbles, but apparently its off-air. In fact, I looked for the camera in the shop window, but didn't see it. I need to stop in there tomorrow to see if they have a USB cable that fits the socket on my camera, and I'll look for the video cam while I'm there. If they have the right cable, I'll upload some photos.

Before lunch, I strolled up Rotcher Road to the first cottage on New Row. It's a holiday let that allows dogs, so I've been wanting to check for evidence of owners not cleaning up after them. It looks and smells fine. No detectable odor from the chippy directly below on Hollowgate, either.

Then I strolled up to the end of Hollowgate to look for progress on the proposed age 55+ housing on the Prickleden Mills property. According to the sign, the property has been acquired. No visible progress, though.

Then back to the town center to photograph the door leading to the Shinyglow office. It looks appropriatly derelict.

BTW, I spent some time in Marsden yesterday and made a few LOTSW photos. Then to the Standedge Tunnel for the narrated excursion with floodlights into the tunnel. This time I was first to board so got a seat on the open deck at the front of the boat. Much better view than through the windows and skylights in the cabin.

It sounds like you are having a very nice visit. Yes, the still cam is frozen again. This time on September 25th. It should easy to spot.....it is right behind the hanging basket that blocks half the view.

Have just e-mailed Simon Flatley. I had not checked it because as you say the hanging basket had blocked most of the view.:35:

The live cam seems to be up and down, depending when you check it. The PC Store was on holiday for a week, so they may have not been interested in dealing with the live cam.

I took a table outside Sid's as it was such a nice day, well out of range of the still cam. Made a photo of the cam and the plant. Viewed from that angle, the plant looks like a perfectly reasonable size.

Have a great time Marianna wish I had time to pop over and see you.looks a good week weather wise,Terry

It's a good thing I had spent so much time wandering Holmfirth's streets in Google Earth. I had to navigate for the taxi driver after his GPS had him turn off Huddersfield Road into the road that runs behind the Co-op and comes out on Station Road. We were headed for The Tap House (used to be Carneceria). It's the sister business and kitchen for The Nook, and it's where guests at The Rooms At The Nook check in. The rooms, along with a lounge and a kitchen, are on the three levels above the pub. The exterior staircase to the rooms is through the ginnel between the back of the optician's office and the front of the Shoulder of Mutton. If you pass the foot of the stairs, you seem to end up at The Nook Brewery.

My room is at the very top of the building overlooking the River Ribble. It could sleep two people, but they'd need to get along really well. It's just about right for one rather short person (that's me!). There's a very strong and, so far, very steady Wi-Fi signal in the room, so I'm happy.

Your PC came through for me like a champ. They didn't have a cable with the right-sized tip or an adapter tip, but they carry a lot of card readers, including a pocket-sized one that accepts the cards my camera uses, as well several other sizes, and had a USB connector so I can plug it into my portable computer. Yesterday's and today's photos are currently uploading to my desktop PC at home so they'll be backed up almost as soon as they appear in the folder. Great boost to peace of mind!

Unfortunately, the photo files are all too large to upload here, and access to the editing software on my desktop PC is too slow via Wi-Fi, so I'll have to wait to display them. When I do, after October 17th, I'll add them to this thread.

I waved to everyone on the way along Station Road to the shop, and mentioned to the fellow who helped me that the live cam has some dedicated fans.

Marianna,

A while back, Terry posted a picture of a lean-to attached to the back of The Cafe. There was some speculation thrown around by the group, but nobody seemed to know its origin or purpose. Any chance you could ask a local historian about it if you have the time and opportunity?

It would be more efficient for anyone with a strong interest in that lean-to to contact the civic society or its equivalent here, enclose a copy of the photo, and ask the question.

I looked carefully at the side wall of the cafe building, and although the section closer to Spring Lane/Dunford Road looks much cleaner than the section toward the church square, the clean area appears to be at least two stories high, much higher than the lean-to appeared in the photo.

You have been lucky with the weather this week Marianna and it looks set to last for some days yet

I certainly have been. Didn't pack any sunscreen, and it's starting to show. Fortunately, I seldom burn, just turn brown.

Currently transferring some photos from my portable computer to my desktop PC at home via drag & drop using the GoToMyPC service. It's a very slow process, but requires no further attention from me. Just edited a couple of yesterday's photos using the Lightroom software on my desktop. It's just a quick edit as the screen is too small to see well, but I didn't want to put photos up in this site just as they came from the camera. Now I have to save an extra, lower-res copy of each one so the site will accept them.

Sadly we have a limitation on disc space at the server, so if we all went mad and uploaded large images then we would soon run out of space and have a hefty bill in the post

Here are a couple of photos of the access to the terrace of cottages that I'm pretty sure was used for the site of Clegg's and Howard's cottages after Howard and Pearl were added to the ensemble. It's on Back Lane. Only two house numbers are shown, where three would be expected, but in another photo the I made from about two-thirds of the way up Victoria Park, using a lens that will zoom in fairly close, it appears that two of the cottages have been knocked together to make one larger one.

I climbed up from the square looking for a clear view of the front of the terrace, but there's none to be seen. When I looked up from Church Terrace I saw only overgrown shrubs. Maybe the residents got fed up with Summer Wine paparazzi invading their privacy. I continued past Church Terrace and up Rattle Row, coming out on Back Lane, then turned right and looked for a terrace with the three chimneys that we occasionally saw in the show.

Possibly a few more photos tomorrow, if there's time.

Marianna, did you get to The Old Bridge at all?

Used to be a wonderful pub with good beer and atmosphere.

But last trip over, it was nowhere near as good. More like
a tearoom and cocktail restaurant.
