Injections

Has anyone had an injection and suffered a reaction to it??
A month or so ago I had my Shingles Vaccination (supposed to keep me Shingles free) The day after I started with a rash and began to itch!!
I've been back to the surgery and twice have come away with different creams etc.I have to go for the third time ,this week I am showing all the symptoms of Chicken Pox.
The doctors either don't know or don't want to know that people can suffer reactions to jabs!
I all my own washing and do not, have not shared my clothes or my bedding with anyone.
None of the family have got any form of rash so what else could mine be but the jab??:02:

It sounds like a reaction to the jab, you need to see a different doctor. Are you using calamine? Don't wear man made fabrics, stick to cotton and keep cool, don't get too hot also if you can take some antihistamines.

First of all, did you actually have chicken pox as a child? Perhaps it was a different strain of chicken pox. Perhaps it was not the strain that the vaccination relies upon to prevent Shingles. Anyway, you might wish to have your doctor report this reaction to the proper authorities so they can be aware of this adverse reaction. Hope that you've stopped itching.

For the record, I also have had the shingles shot and had zero reaction. When I had the shot, they told me that the shot is not guaranteed to prevent all types of shingles but it will lessen the effects (or something like that).

I had chicken pox as a child and got shingles a few years ago(one in my eye ) There was a niggle of doubt that I needed the jab at all.(You must have it ,we are injecting everyone of your age )I wish now I'd have said no!!

At age 65 when Medicare kicked in so they were covered by insurance, I had my shingles vaccination and vaccinations for all the usual childhood diseases for which my blood tests showed no antibodies. No reactions at all except for the usual sore arm from the tetanus shot.

I know someone who had a severe case of shingles years ago. She was completely helpless for the first three months or so and she hasn't yet recovered from the resulting postherpetic neuralgia. Prior to the shingles, she had no signs of immune system suppression, so there was no apparent reason for such a severe case.

Having seen her suffering, it would worth it to me to endure a bout of chickenpox-like itchy blisters, similar to the chickenpox I had as a child, to avoid an experience even slightly like hers.

I know that some people do have side effect's from injection's, if you have any worrie's alway's see your doctor for advice.

My biggest problem in this case, must be the fact that I have had so many antibiotics over the winter to help my chest problems. I have either not got any antibodies left or not had chance to build up more?:o o:

Dick/Marianna ,

I wish there was a Thank you button because your posts deserve it . There are certain posts ,like your posts Dick, where I feel a like is not appropriate to use "like". To me it seems to imply that I am rejoicing in learning of your condition and the ongoing problems, when really I want to show compassion for your predicament and show support for your issues but not necessarily by having to post a comment. I know I am probably being rather pedantic but it would be nice to have other ways to express appreciation.

The main worry in my doctors surgery is getting in to see him! You have to queue up at 8-30 am or start phoning at 8-30 .With no guarantee in either case. :13:No wonder A&E gets filled with trivial cases!!

You mind you take care of yourself Dick

I have just looked on the surgery website to find that one of the doctors has a whole 30 minutes to spare for appointments next Monday from 7-30 in the evening!:cautious:

we do get patient's complaining that they can't see their GP so they have come to A&E

Evening Dick.. Thanks for asking after me. pearl has told me to get myself herre.

Sounds like your GP is difficult to get to see. Ours not too bad if routine and can wait a week or so but the lottery of getting through at 8.30 if more urgent. And they know one of the phone lines is dodgy and does not get answered!

Not been offered shingles vaccinations - yet! just the flu jab which rsulted in a flu in February which knockd me out of the runnign for nearly the whole month!

My surgery took over a local practice(which was failing)2 or 3 mnth ago and apptmnts have gone down hill since!!

I actually used a trick? to see an older doctor the other morning. Apparently if you are registered online with the practice you can check at 07-00 am to see if any cancellations are listed. If there are and you are quick you can take one of them.
The guy I got in to see , took one look ,asked me if it started after the jab and pronounced it was a reaction to said jab. He gave me some strong anti histamines and yet more cream/soap substitute and said it would take time. What with the anti- biotics for my chest and all the rest I could start a chemists shop! All part of life's rich pattern though! :08:

Glad you managed to get seen and hopefully the medication will work . I echo your sentiments about the numbers of tablets you have to take . It seems the older you are the more you get to take , the tablet organisers they sell don't have the capacity to hold them a tool chest may be a better option.

Been back to G Ps this morning. The rash is worse so all change again on the tablet front. I now have been given steroid tablets and Diazepam in case the steroids affect me (Last lot I had sent me hyper, moods up and down.)Will not be using any more creams and can maybe get back to usual soap and shower gel etc. Bumped into a lady who swears she has not been well since her flu jab!
