Jean Fergusson

Adding my post here in addition to the previous thread:-

This is just awful as you say 74 is no age . Jean's role as Marina is iconic , the eternal Howard-Pearl-Marina triangle was a cornerstone of the show and I feel is as pertinent to its success as the three leading men's antics . It is with deepest sadness that we have lost two sides of that triangle in recent months with Julie also sadly passing away . She was clearly philosophical about having to dress up in clothes that perhaps did not seem appropriate for a person of her age but clearly realised it was expected for the role and like a true troubadour of the Theatre she just continued on regardless. Thankfully we can continue to enjoy her tantalising hold over Howard for time in Memoriam on screen and DVD . A very very sad loss.

NB Please don't think ill of me for mentioning this on this thread but whoever writes the headline on the BBC page does not deserve to be employed . I find it very distasteful when these people refer to people by their Surname only. Surely Jean and others deserve a modicum of respect , its only 4 letters to give Jean her full name on the headline . Jean like a lot of us left school some time ago but perhaps these people believe everyone still is and have every right call people by their Surname , I think it is so disrespectful in any circumstances but most certainly in this instance.

Totally agree, I find it very disrespectful and rude, if they don't want to use first names then Miss Mrs or Mr aren't hard to type. :mad:
 
Yes that's very sad. Marina was one of the main characters during the golden age of the show before Compo died.
RIP Jean Fergusson.
 
R.I.P. Jean (Marina), a great actress and a real trooper, she really suffered for her art,
she was dragged through the bushes, grass and water for the sake of love (Howard).
 
Looked it up in the BBC news. The cause of her death is not yet known. The BBC does say that she will be remembered for her role as Marina for 25 years in the Summer Wine drama.....????????? DRAMA?????? I wouldn't class Summer Wine as a drama. It is a SITCOM. It is still the best programme on the telly. Are the people running BBC out of nappies yet? It is only three weeks since we lost Pearl. RIP together ladies.
 
Absolutely devastating news, particularly acute so soon after the passing of Juliette. Terry I know you've probably more knowledge of the cast on set than anyone else, do you have any enduring memories of meeting her?

I recall she always had a smile, was very professional, made time for any fans that turned up when filming, I have been there on some very chilly days and often wondered,where is her coat
 
Very shocked and saddened to hear of Jean Fergusson's untimely death, she was a fine actress and a mainstay of Last of the Summer Wine. RIP Jean and condolences to her family and friends. It's turning out to be a very sad year for us with the loss of Jean so soon after Juliette Kaplan's passing.
 
Extremely sad news :( I had the pleasure of meeting Jean a couple of times and she was such a down to earth, warm person. The type of person who you could quite happily spend the afternoon chatting with. A real loss ..
 
I wonder if Pearl and Marina are still trying to avoid each other in heaven or have they finally made up. Truly a sad loss for her family, friends and her fans. And no I don't think I could be lying.
