Live Aid at 40

I recall the hours spent watching the original, even took a portable TV into work as I was on night shift, so me and my colleague's could keep track of events.
These days I like to watch it on YouTube as I can select the acts I like
 
I watched the BBC documentary series of three episodes if you peel away the music then the cause was so so admirable . My lasting memory from watching these shows is the sheer tenacity of Bob Geldof and Bono , there is a real contrast in approach Geldof just speaks his mind , in one episode he buttonholes an African president and freely uses the F word to get his point over , Bono is more considered and subtle , when he met Bush knowing he was a very religious man took him an old Irish bible as a gift which of course really was a plus and gained his interest in what he had to say.
 
A friend of mine is a Dubliner....when U2 first started and brought out "Boy" in 1980 [an absolutely fantastic album which in my very humble opinion still sounds amazing after all these years !!!] he told me Bono used to ride around Dublin......on the top deck of the buses reading from a MASSIVE Bible.

I remember there was a drama documentary about Live Aid a few years ago which showed how Bob Geldof ran himself ragged.
 
My favorite of that era was the Ronnie James Dio-led Hear 'n Aid. Metal was a pariah on the airwaves at the time (funny to say that now) and the effort was obviously not to the same scale of We Are the World but in some ways it sent a stronger message about peoples assumptions.
