More Remakes and Come Backs

I was going to say it won't work.

The producer and director of the originals are dead. Most of the cast are.

Carry On Columbus, just 14 years after the original run, was a disaster - though it needn't have been if it wasn't for poor casting and people attempting to modernise things.

Times have changed, and it seems no one can or will make something new in the exact style of something old.

Who would appear in the new films? Is there anyone young enough who can actually act and be as funny as those in the old films?

However...

It's mentioned Robert Ross is to be involved. Robert has a great understanding of Carry Ons, and all British comedy. His knowledge on such things is spot on (though I think he and his co-writer may have let themselves down with mistake-ridden Summer Wine book).

If a new Carry On WAS to be made, the only way it would be a true homage is if it was full of all the surviving Carry On stars - and by that I am including some of the people who appeared in cameos for just a couple of films - people like Windsor Davies, Valerie Leon, Kenneth Cope, June Whitfield, Bernard Cribbins, etc, etc, etc, etc.

Let's face it - it's going to be rubbish.

Why not just make the films, and forget the Carry On title?

Why can't the new films be standalone films, without relying on a Carry On pre-fix in the title?

Keep Calm and Carry On was a WW2 phrase made up for if we ( Brits) got invaded by Hitler. We were to keep calm and carry on as usual. We're pretty stoic like that.
The Carry On Films, although I know were enjoyed by many were " Naughty but nice" films with plenty of innuendo and corny jokes. Not a fan myself.

I suspect the "style" of Carry On films, especially after the first two or three would not really be acceptable in today's world. A lot of stereotyping that many would now be uncomfortable with and the joles were basd on a lot of innuendo as Pearl has said. They were a product of their time.

Also that particular mix of actors is no longer available.

They are all on DVD - so if you wish to see them - you can.

Although the Carry On films had a lot of innuendo, they still managed to be clean enough for the whole family to enjoy.

I suspect the new films would miss this entirely.
