My visit to Holmfirth

I visited Holmfirth on 17-18 March (all the way from Seattle, WA) during my short trip to England. In honor of the one-year anniversary of my mother’s passing, I sprinkled a small amount of her ashes at “the bench.” I hired Mount Taxi company to drive me to a few of the locations on the 18th then on to Leeds to catch a train back to London. The driver was terrific! We chatted nonstop for 2 hours! Since the bench isn’t easily accessible by car, we parked where the dirt road became too rough then he walked with me to the bench. There were a couple of gentleman enjoying the view there when we arrived. My brief stay in Holmfirth was enough to know that I’d like to come back and stay longer. I stayed at the Old Bridge Inn and would probably stay there again. I have too many photos to post so I’m just including the ones from the bench. Rest assured I visited Compo’s and Nora’s places, stopped in for tea at Sid’s Cafe, and visited the graves of Bill and Peter. Thanks to @maltrab for the locations map and to everyone who chimed in on advice for my visit. IMG_2262.jpeg

What a wonderful and fitting tribute to your Mum , I imagine you experienced every emotion but hopefully the sheer happy memories you have of her came to the fore. Two lovely photos.

Glad you had a chance to make it there. Wonderful landscape picture view of the countryside, thanks for sharing. Sounds like you had a great trip with lovely weather. Much respect for leaving a bit of ashes of your Mom at the bench.

I thought it was but just wanted to check incase their was another similar one I'd missed.
I came across this last year after walking up Cartworth road and then turning off along Ward Bank Road which has fabulous views all the way along and then you get the best of all at this bench!
Could sit here for ages!
I remember passing the rising sun campsite on the way to see number 84 - Foggys House just up the road.
