They say there is over 205 trillion spam e-mails sent worldwide every day, so the chances of not getting any are remote, I even set up a spare email account over a year ago,never used it and it was a odd email address to guess, but within 8 months it started to attract spam,even though it had never been used to send or receive mail.
The are many online companies that won't let you use their site without registering, so it is best to have a separate email account for these, then if it fills up with junk,who cares, keep your main account just for family and friends
Also never use the email account given to you from your internet provider i.e @bt.com because if you ever move provider you have to tell everyone your new email address, I have found the better ones to use with good spam filtering are Gmail or GMX.com
At the moment in the UK the tax rebate scam mail is doing the rounds, as they know around now many folk will be expecting a tax rebate, the current one is stating that due to a change in the law, this online form must be done in 30 days or you loose your rebate
