New DVD Player??

Sorry to bug y'all but I am tearing my hair out trying to get an
answer.

I need a new DVD player that has a USB input port, that
can output to a TV. It must be able to play from a USB drive
that contains an MP4 file and an AVI file (but not both at
the same time).

My prob has been that when it says MPEG-4 it does not
necessarily mean MP-4.

I currently have several DVD players that play AVI files from
a USB flash drive onto my TV. Works great. Will not play MP4
files even when I change the file type to AVI.

But lately finding AVI (DIVX) files is getting difficult. Instead, I
download an MP4 then have to convert it to AVI then put
it on the USB drive. Must be an easier way!!

Sorry Chuck , I'm like Cleggy ,if its more than 3 moving parts I'll never understand it ???

I'm like Cleggy, not to into the technical stuff. Even walking into Best Buy causes panic.

These days Chuck DVD players are old hat, you would be better off with a device like this connected to your TV http://www.amazon.com/Sumvision-Cyc...=1434526931&sr=8-2&keywords=sumvision+cyclone ,as you can see it plays most video formats (Not H265) direct from a memory stick/portable hard drive/SD card, you need a spare HDMI port on your TV

New DVD Player

Pardon my lack of knowledge but with a micro media player you presumably attach some sort of storage device that holds copies of films etc . If you have a large collection of DVD's am I right in thinking you have to effectively copy them to said storage and to do that you need to purchase something like AnyDVD, which strips off any protection, and also a suitable copying program that will read the DVD and copy the contents to your chosen storage device. All of which is time consuming and you are left with a collection of dust gathering DVD boxes which are of little use and what have probably cost you quite a substantial amount of money . I hope I am totally wrong here and would be interested how you tackled this problem of having a large DVD collection .

You are quiet correct, you would need to rip all those dvd's into another format such as divx or avi, in the past I have used Imtoo software to do this, very clean, quick and simple to use,you can buy this for around $40 or £25,depending on the media player you can either use a USB stick or portable hard drive, the Sumvision Mircro 4 which is available in the UK and cost under £40 will connect to either you PC or something else on your network like a NAS box with HDD's fitted, this you can do with either a network cable or wireless and stream all your video from theses devices to your TV,all this takes far less space than a collection of DVD's and no need to swop discs every 90 or so minutes

Ah well ... just seems easier to continue using Any Video Converter
to make the MP4s into AVIs and continue using my old DVD
players with their USB ports. Was hoping it would have gotten
easier now that everyone uploads MP4s.

Wow!!! That's a technology I didn't know about and it looks very interesting.

I use the Aimersoft family of video manipulating software. It isn't free, but the price is very reasonable and it does the job with very little intervention on my part. Ripping and converting the DVDs and burning to a different medium is time consuming for my PC, but not for me. I can do other things, either on the PC or elsewhere, while it works.

I haven't yet done a test on a recently produced high quality DVD to see whether or not there's a detectible loss of video quality in the converted version similar to the loss of audio depth when music from a CD is converted to MP4 format. If I can't see any quality loss, eventually I'll convert my DVDs in order to free up some shelf space.

OK, lemme clarify something here.

I do not do much at all with DVDs other than to play some of the
older ones I have either bought or burned. DVDs are not in question.

Mostly I download UK TV shows as torrent files off the net. Used
to get them as AVI files but more and more they are coming as
MP4 files.

I can copy a downloaded AVI file to a USB flash drive, plug the flash
drive into the USB port on a DVD player, and play it to the TV.

But when I download an MP4 file, I first have to convert it
to an AVI file before storing it on the flash drive because my DVD
player will not play MP4 files.

So real question is simple: I need a plain-ol-DVD player that will
play an MP4 as my current player plays an AVI.

Capiche?

I've never tried this, but it looks as though Aimersoft's Ultimate Video Converter will convert MP4 to AVI, among many other combinations. So rather than looking for a different DVD player, why not convert the downloaded MP4 files to a format that your current one can play?

Hey Marianna, I am already converting the downloaded MP4 files
to AVI. I use a FREE tool called Any Video Converter.

http://www.any-video-converter.com/download-avc-free.php

No big deal, but I was hoping to eliminate that step.
Depends on the file size, and a half-hour Brit Show does
not take long, but a several hour European bicycle race
can take a bit and slow down the computer as well.

In any case, still looking for a DVD player that takes a
USB drive and accepts MP4 files.
