Not working like it used to.

Been feeling a bit down lately, with life in general and other "events" which have happened lately in the world, so I thought I would return to what used to cheer me up and rewatch LOTSW as I haven't watched it for quite some time. (I pretty much know all the dialogue by heart)

I even decided to start at the episode I saw first and which got me "into" the show..."Jurassic No Parking". Unfortunately, while the episode is as I remember it, the emotions it now brings is not.

All it did was depress me more....and that is NO fault of the show! I was simply reminded of Holly's comments to Dave in Episode 1 of Red Dwarf when asked where everybody was. Those in the know will understand where I am coming from! :44::cry2:

Ahhh....Life.......no one gets out alive!!:redface2:

On the UP side....the wife found a shipment of "LEES SNOWBALLS" had arrived at a local supermarket. These are practically impossible to find over here, I have literally not seen a single one in about 3 years and that was a pure accident. They just do not transport over here either "well" or AT ALL!
These are one of, if not my ACTUAL favourite confectionaries! ( Has to be LEES! same with Macaroon Bars...also rare over here) SWMBO, knowing this, and knowing I haven't been my usual happy cheery depressive self lately, bought TEN boxes of them. She was promptly chastised!...for not buying the REST of them as well!!! :02::08:

10 boxes of 6 = 60.....they MAY last until tomorrow, but I wouldn't bet on it! :eek::eek:

As I've got older the darker episodes of comedy appeal more and especially so when in a down mood - give it a whirlygig - you always have friends here nonetheless.

I guess you'll like the League Of Gentleman Christmas Special then? That's probably the darkest comedy episode I've ever seen...

Sadly Brian you sound as if you are Kryten on shutdown day but as with him all is not lost, if Jurassic or indeed any other episode of LOTSW don't help search for your other all time favourites and give them a spin Pink Panther films, Stir Crazy, Tough Guys , Blazing Saddles work for me plus lots of TV shows of yesteryear just lift me Porridge is a favourite as is Father Ted . :)

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately "down" periods are part of my life it has been clinically diagnosed as SEVERE depression AND Dysthymia, apparently they call it double depression! While I am much improved since I retired I am generally not a very happy bunny at the best of times. Lately everything in life just seems to be designed to "P*ss me off!" However life continues....unfortunately LOL

As they say.. "Life is a sexually transmitted terminal disease!" :(

As for watching other shows, including the "dark" ones, I DO!!!

I have very unusual and eclectic tastes. For example I cannot stand The Legue of Gentlemen, but love "The Boys".
I have recently discovered the show "Slow Horses" and despite having watched every episode, I STILL don't know whether I like it or not....but I DEFINITELY want to see more!!!!

The problem with constantly going back to watch movies or shows which you really like is that they become stale, which is what I think has happened with LOTSW. I KNOW all the episodes, I KNOW all the characters, I KNOW all the gags, I KNOW the scenery (Even visited a lot of it)
I KNOW the backgrounds of the actors and of the show itself, so there isn't really a lot left in it for me....I have sucked all the goodness out of it!

My own fault I know but that doesn't change the facts unfortunately!

Other shows which people love and are "big things" such as "Only fools and horses" leave me totally cold! (Shoot me!...with my luck you will probably miss anyway! LOL) but I can be enticed by shows which people seem to hate and which only last a couple of episodes (Not naming any....basically because I have forgotten some of them!)

Porridge and Pink Panther leave me cold....Early Father Ted (and THERMOMAN) I liked. "My family" especially the early episodes with "Nick" I liked. Most American comedy (Not all...but most) is as funny to me as a poke in the eye with a blunt stick.

I am my own worst enemy..... I am easily bored...but extremely lazy....those traits do NOT play well with each other!

Have you watched Still Game, if that does cause you to have a titter, nothing with, you will probably find it on Youtube

I fully understand why you would reach these conclusions I think exactly the same but I seem to be in an unenviable position of being able to park all of that and simply enjoy the sheer craft that was employed by the writers , actors and production team to make these great films and tv shows. There are films like Blazing Saddles and the Blues Brothers where I am way over 50 watches and if they were on the TV schedule [unlikely with Blazing] I'd make sure I was available to watch them despite owning DVD copies , perhaps I am simply using them as a comfort blanket. :)

Terry...sorry but I find Still Game unwatchable, despite it being Scottish and despite it having actors who worked with Rikki Fulton (Loved Scotch and Wry!). Told you I had weird tastes LOL

Oddly enough, the TV shows that I like to watch are a type of reality show which features the trials and tribulations of state wardens (animal and forest police officers) with lots of bears, deer, and elk (dead or alive), in/on mountains, lakes, streams, and rivers. In short, lots of nature. Recently, a warden had to remove a snake from a bed as a teenager woke up and found that he was not alone; and a bear had to be removed from a car.

Brian, have you tried something you've never seen before?
There's now a list of some of the greatest comedies towards the end of the 'Gentle comedies' thread.
