Off to Holmfirth

Wish I were off there too!

As a matter of interest where are you stopping as I plan to go in a few weeks myself?

Thanks Terry, it looks absolutely idyllic!

I've never stayed in Holmfirth, if I'm not camping I was considering The White Horse but the place you're staying at is immensely tempting!!!

It is good value, great breakfast, very comfortable, and the distant view from the back was used to film the scene running up to Reggie Unsworth farm

Cottages have gone silly prices now. Pre covid £380 a week, now £530. Campsites £22 ish per night with electric. Going basic at the rising sun site. (New mobile trio junction). Have also stayed at Holme valley camping on Huddersfield rd. Can walk into town from both but uphill to the rising sun.

I haven't camped for over 30 years! but I'm hoping I can use my Land Rover (110) to sleep in but I'm discovering that many campsites don't like people sleeping in their cars, albeit a large 4x4?

You could probably 'stealth' camp in that, anywhere.
Lots of pubs will let you stay over night in their car park, usually just asking that you buy a meal. Try the rising sun, non electric pitch, I'm sure you'd be fine.

Thanks Graham really appreciate the advice, probably stealth camping is a step too far just yet, advantage of a camp site is I have the washing and toilet facilities available. Advantage of the modern day technology is you don't really need electrical hook ups if you charge up your laptop and mobile phone beforehand. I'm going to contact a few campsites, hopefully they don't have too many issues as my Defender is pretty much the same size as a VW camper van.

Lots of micro campers & ordinary vans/cars have what is known as 'boot jumps', basically a slide out hob n sink within a small tent/awning attached to the tailgate.
You could always say that you have that set up. Some now have a tent on the roof!

You certainly know your cars Graham, Wesley would be proud!

I've looked into that, LR do an amazing roof tent which opens like a clam, but you need to buy that, ladder and the roof bars which cost over 4 grand combined, that's a lot of nights staying at The White Horse instead :)

o_O yes big money! Campers & motorhomes also have inflated prices at the mo. The world's gone mad. You could look around for a Ludavic van!

Thanks for your guidance @maltrab & @Graham as I've not camped in over 30 years I've booked one night at the end of this month at Holme Valley Campsite & the second night at The Old Bridge Inn just in case I can't take to camping :pHas anyone stayed at either, I'm hoping they're both ok?

I did try at Coddy's Farm Terry as Tripadvisor reviews are brilliant but unsurprisingly it's fully booked for when I wanted to visit. Really looking forwards to staying in Holmfirth having only ever visited there for a few hours at a time previously. Not quite ready to wild camp at the land I've acquired just yet....

Bit of a difference in price from camping to the old bridge. Holme valley is idyllic location, may have midgies with the pond tho? We stayed in January so was ok.

The Old Bridge was the only place I could get into for 1 night as there is very little available. I have to say I'm perhaps out of touch with camping but £24 for a pitch in a field without electricity seems rather steep to me!
