I recall on several trips to Germany, the price of fuel could change every day, it was sods law that if you filled up in the morning, it would be cheaper in the afternoon or vice versusAnd we think OUR petrol is expensive!!! Prices have come down a bit from their high a few months ago and today basic 91RON petrol here is about $1.60 per litre. Given the current exchange rate that equates to about 80p per litre. It has been as high as about $2.25/litre.
The higher grades of fuel can be up to 20c per litre more expensive. Most cars run on 91 just fine (Not sure what the equivalent grade ratings are overseas) but more modern ones, especially those with smaller, higher compression engines, and performance cars require higher grade.
We also have a weekly price cycle here which is artificially produced by the oil companies which means the prices can and do vary wildly from day to day, with Tuesdays usually being the cheapest.
As usual the Govt has the biggest grubbiest hands in the till!
