Hello Folk,

For many of you, there isn't anything you don't already know, however I still thought I'd share this Maryland Public Television article on Stephen Lewis.

Thanks to both of you. That article gave a much broader picture of Stephen Lewis - not just his success with On The Buses. I didn't know he was also a successful author and composer. Reading about his early work history as an electrician’s mate, a bricklayer, a carpenter, etc. made me think of Gordon Wharmby and work as a house painter/decorator.

To me Stephen Lewis was almost the quintessential Variety artist because essentially he brought the same characteristics to most of his roles , much as Variety artists basically hawked the same act around the Music Halls for years without making an change . I am not in any way showing disrespect to Stephen as an actor like the Variety artists he had a winning formula so why change . His roles in On the Buses , LOTSW, Oh Dr Beeching and even his guest appearance in One Foot in the Grave as Georgina Hale's long suffering husband Vince are almost identical in the way he portrayed them . I am only glad that he, like many other actors who brought us great pleasure, was afforded the plaudits he deserved and was given a suitably respectful send off.
