Railway Escape

We've been to the city a few times, theres a fantastic museum there that has some Victorian shops that you can go in. Theres a sweet shop you can actually buy sweets from, the first time we went my husband walked in and jumped 6 feet in the air the shop assistant spoke to him, he thought he was dummy. The Cathedral is amazing and so big, definitely worth going to see.

I think York has to be one of my favorite cities in the UK, it has it all. Brilliant museums, great shops, restaurants and loads to do.

The National Trust has a handful of historic hotels, one of which is in York called Middlethorpe Hall - it's a beautiful place to stay and/or eat. It's not the cheapest but you're supporting the charity when you stay.

I am a pretty regular visitor to York sometimes I actually keep my shirt after the races [so embarrassing on the train bare skinned even being a toon fan] it is a great city to visit especially the architecture , the Shambles and its little shops are a must but can get really busy and there are countless bars and restaurants to eat and drink at . A few years back the replica Shakespeare's Rose theatre was built there but not sure if it is still there as I haven't been to that part in a while.

I still "need" to buy a replica of the green man gargoyle on York Cathedral. My garden (UK English) or yard (US English) badly needs his spell cast over it. The problem is finding one that's light-weight enough to carry home in my luggage.

I've only been to York once and spent most of the day in the railway museum.
I have been to the railway museum many times and it is great to visit, the last time I went was a special ticket event when they had several A4 loco's including Mallard all in the great hall, with this ticket we could access the museum at 06.30, the numbers were limited to 30 people, they provided a basic breakfast and drinks, we had until 9am before the doors opened to the masses,we left at 9am and the queue was manic to get in, stretching as far as the eye could see towards the main York station, I felt sorry for anyone trying to get a decent photo of anything with that amount of people in there.
