Sadly Ruth Madoc , Gladys Pugh from Hi De Hi ,has sadly tragically passed away. It appears she was Hospitalised from a fall rehearsing for Pantomime earlier in the week and died in post operative surgery recovery . She was an accomplished actress appearing in Under Milkwood with the greats of British acting Burton and Taylor amongst other luminaries. Late in life she was in Calendar Girls and Little Britain both part s could be considered risque but she will eternally be remembered as Gladys the man hungry Chief Yellowcoat in Hi De Hi the brilliant Croft and Perry comedy series . It was amongst my favourites having holidayed many times at Butlins in the 60's . As Camp announcer she will be remembered for that three note xylophone which signalled some of the laugh out loud announcements sometimes followed by her singing in response to request .
No longer needed alongside Ted, Spike and Ramona to host the "who can get the most Spaghetti down the trousers" competition tragically the Vamp of the Valleys has passed away. A very very sad loss.
